Carbon Footprints

  1. In college I was a staunch environmentalist. Until one day my friend Sam made a point that one volcanic explosion puts more carbon emissions in the air than all the cars in the US for a year (or something to that effect, I don’t recall the actual statistic). He used to drive me crazy with that mantra until I looked it up and found it to be true.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe it is critical that we take steps to keep our air and our land as clean as we are capable of and without government enforcement. But just remember, that despite all of our “tip toeing” around, doing everything we can to leave as little of a footprint as possible, the earth’s carbon emissions far succeeds anything we as a human race can collectively produce. Also remember, carbon dioxide is a vital gas used by plants. If we ever were successful in removing all carbon from our atmosphere, plant life would die.
